Bristol & Somerset Funeral Celebrant
Pricing & Packages
Sometimes it’s hard to find the right words to honour a life well-lived. Funerals can be a time to reflect on a whole life, celebrate successes and remember happy times. To help you, I will meet with you and guide you through one of life’s hardest journeys, creating heartfelt sensitive farewells and/or fabulous celebratory goodbyes.
With my creative writing skills, I can articulate all that you want to say and can present this using the most appropriate tone, special music and the precious memories to tell the story of your loved one’s life. Getting the ceremony ‘right’ is often the first stage in coming to terms with the loss.

Scattering a loved one’s ashes can be a highly personal and ceremonial moment. Choosing somewhere that has meant something to your loved one is important.
Popular options include scattering ashes in a memorial garden, at a family grave, or somewhere that holds special memories, such as at sea or the beach. Whilst this is a personal choice, there are also regulations to be aware of, as sometimes you’ll need to seek permission to scatter the ashes of a loved one in the location you’ve chosen.

Interring ashes is the process of putting cremation ashes in a permanent resting place so that you can visit. Interring ashes can mean burying them in a special vessel or putting them in a Columbarium — a building, room, or freestanding wall designed to hold urns. Creating a ceremony for this ritual heightens its significance and honours the moment. It also offers closure in the many goodbyes you experience and can aid the grieving process.

A memorial service or ‘memory service’ is often held after a funeral and on occasions instead of a funeral service. A memorial service can take place on a specific date, such as your loved one’s birthday, the anniversary of their death, or at any other time following their funeral. What’s more, it can be held anywhere - a special venue, a park or your own home.
This can be a time to celebrate your loved one’s life and the joy that they brought to you and others, as opposed to a funeral which was possibly more sombre. For this reason, you may also hear a memorial service referred to as a ‘celebration of life’ and this may be your preference rather than having a funeral ceremony.

Personalising your funeral ceremony can be enhanced and enriched by the inclusion of a symbolic ritual. This may include the involvement of any personal artefacts or customs/practices that were enjoyed by the deceased. It may be that during the time of reflection, your family may wish to place items on the coffin. These might be butterflies or smiley faces or it may be a sports motif or something related to a hobby that your loved one enjoyed. Some people like to share a favourite tipple at a certain point in the ceremony to raise a glass to a life well-lived. The options here are endless and I can discuss how you would like to personalise moments in the ceremony to give it even more meaning and depth.

Celebrating your loved one in a meaninful, very personalised way
During the funeral of your loved one, there are many opportunities to personalise the ceremony with a symbolic ritual which shows their values and personalities when they were alive.
In this example, the family chose to stick smiley faces onto the coffin during the ‘Time of Reflection’ whilst his favourite song “You’ve got a friend in me” played. This song was so relevant as this lovely man treated everyone he met as a friend and wore a big smile on his face. He also had the smiley face image all around his house. This symbolic ritual shared by his family was therefore powerful and meaningful.
